A Lawrence man remains in critical condition tonight following yesterday's accident on the Kansas Turnpike which left another woman dead and five others injured.
Lawrence was lucky today to avoid the heavy snowfall which seemed to hit surrounding towns in the area, however, ice is still causing all sorts of mayhem for those on the road.
Flames began shooting from the office of the 'Westminster Inn' at 2525 W. 6th St., Central Lawrence around 6:30 p.m. Firefighters quickly went door-to-door making sure all motel guests were evacuated. The fire stalled traffic on 6th St. as hoses stretched across the busy road. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The plan calls for the building of an expanded public library on the site of the existing post office. The boards recommendation still awaits approval from the City Commissioners.
