The Campanile at Kansas University has a new addition as of this morning.
A crew from Midland Marble and Granite in Independence, Mo., added the name of Raleigh C. Bowlby Jr. to the memorial. The company donated its time and materials.
KU officials thought the 276 names listed inside the Campanile represented all the students, faculty and staff killed during World War II.
But Bowlby's family approached the university last year to say Bowlby wasn't included on the memorial. Bowlby was one semester short of graduating with a business degree when he enlisted in the Army in February 1941. He was killed April 8, 1944, in action near Cassino, Italy.
