Kathleen Sebelius confirmed Wednesday that Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider from Wichita, indeed had paid to get a seat at a dinner last year with her at Cedar Crest, the governor’s mansion in Topeka. But Sebelius is dismissing an anti-abortion group’s assertions that Tiller had been an honored guest, and that the April 9, 2007, reception had been a “lavish secret party” for Tiller, his staffers and other doctors who perform abortions.

Papa Keno's Pizzeria in downtown Lawrence was closed Wednesday, with a sign posted on its door saying that the business's assets had been seized for nonpayment of taxes. Personnel from the Kansas Department of Revenue were inside the business at 1035 Mass., as locks were changed on the front door and other personnel were standing by.

The route for Sunday’s parade of champions for the Kansas Jayhawks has been extended beyond downtown. The parade, as originally scheduled, will start at 3 p.m. at Seventh and Massachusetts streets, and move south on Massachusetts toward South Park. But instead of stopping there, the parade crew of KU players, coaches, support staffers and members of the pep band and Spirit Squad will continue down Massachusetts to 19th Street. From there they’ll turn and head west, toward 19th and Naismith Drive.
