George was born at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, but his family moved to southwest Kansas when he was 3. He grew up in Liberal until he attended Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English. His interest in journalism began when he worked as a summer intern reporter at the Southwest Daily Times in Liberal covering local government and writing feature stories.

After working for one year as a reporter in Liberal, George returned to Lawrence to attend journalism graduate school at KU. That July of 2005, he also began working as a part-time general-assignment reporter at the Journal-World.

In June 2007, George began working at the Journal-World full-time and eventually moved to the K-12 education beat. A highlight of his time with The World Company is a January 2007 trip to Washington, D.C., to cover the Kansas delegation at the session’s opening.

In his spare time, George enjoys attending Chiefs and Royals games, supporting Kansas University sports teams, exercising, spending time with family and reading books and blogs on Civil War history, football and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
