State officials are set to close down a Lawrence nursing home. The state announced Friday it will revoke the "Provider Agreement" for Lake View Manor next month. Without that agreement, Lake View will not be eligible for Medicaid payments, effectively forcing it out of business.

A 51-year-old man is killed in a road accident south of Clinton Lake Friday night. Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash on County Road 458 and East 700 Road, just after 4 p.m. The accident involved a motorized bike and a mini-van. The bike driver apparently made a U-turn without seeing the van behind him.

Cleanup efforts will begin soon at a historic site that's become a dumpsite near Baldwin City. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment agreed Monday to pay $60 thousand to clean up the Black Jack Battlefield east of Baldwin.

More than 200 people spend time behind bars today at the Eldridge Hotel. Thursday’s annual Lawrence Lockup for the Muscular Dystrophy Association brought in about $55 thousand. Every $600 raised sends one child to the Associations summer camp in Linwood.

The Kansas Supreme Court will now decide whether a 71-year-old sexual predator is too dangerous to live in a group home. Attorneys for 71-year-old Leroy Hendricks argued his 11 years of treatment, diabetes and a recent stroke means he no longer poses a threat.

Westar Energy crews continue to work to restore power to customers in the Lawrence area. As of about 5 p.m. Monday night Westar officials say approximately 650 customers were without power. The outages are scattered throughout town and crews from several neighboring cities have been called in to assist.

Life in the fast lane is on its way to southern Leavenworth County. Kansas Turnpike officials announced plans Friday to build an interchange at I-70 and Leavenworth County Rd. 1. Leavenworth County will be responsible for eight million dollars in upgrades to three miles of county road.

Local fire investigators pinpoint the cause of two separate fires that sparked Tuesday in Lawrence. Interim Lawrence Fire Chief Mark Bradford says oily rags thrown out in a plastic bag spontaneously combusted, which sparked a fire in the 800 block of Broadview. Also, electrical problems sparked a fire in the 1200 block of Tennessee.

A two-alarm fire broke out in a home converted to apartments in the 1200 block of Tennessee at 1:35 a.m., Tuesday. Interim Lawrence Fire Chief Mark Bradford says the residents who live at the house at 1216 Tennessee St. got out safely.

Flood waters in Lawrence are receding. At noon Monday, the Kansas River was about 14 ½ feet, which was a drop of two feet from Monday morning. Officials from Douglas County Emergency Management say water over 23 feet can cause major flooding.
