    Who's Cooking?

    Jayni Jayni Carey, Host

Jayni Carey is the host of the weekly television cooking show, Jayni's Kitchen. The show is taped in her home kitchen in Lawrence, Kansas and airs on WOW! 6.

Jayni Carey has authored four cookbooks. Her most recent book, The Best Of Jayni's Kitchen, was released in October, 2008 by Sunflower Publishing, a division of the World Company. The cookbook contains 180 mouth-watering recipes from the award-winning show. The recipes are the result of a collaborative effort with contributing guests. Recipes were selected from all categories of cooking: hors d'oeuvres and starters, soups, salads, main courses, starch side dishes, vegetables, brunch items, beverages and desserts. Whether you prefer to cook meals in your kitchen, or outdoors on the grill, there is something for everyone. The collection includes easy recipes for the novice and more challenging ones for the seasoned cook.

In 2000, Jayni self-published Kitchen Magic: The Secrets Of Elevating Ordinary Foods To Extraordinary Heights. In this book she shares the secrets of transforming simple foods into elegant and flavorful dishes. This book empowers every cook to add a chef's touch to their recipes.

Jayni co-authored two other cookbooks with her husband Frank. The Easier You Make It, The Better It Tastes! was published in April, 1994 by Better Homes and Gardens Books. This was the publisher's first venture into cookbooks authored outside their organization. The book contains over 140 recipes and 60 color photographs and is designed for cooks who expect impressive results without a lot of time and fuss. It features contemporary recipes emphasizing three essential components: Imaginative recipes, high-quality ingredients, and clear, simple instructions in an easy-to-use format.

Jayni and Frank's first book, The Kansas Cookbook: Recipes from the Heartland , was published in 1989 by The University Press of Kansas. In its third printing, over 30,000 copies have been sold, making it a regional best-seller. It is the third all-time best-selling book at The University Press of Kansas. In this book, the Heartland takes its place in the culinary spotlight in a celebration of Kansas cooking. Recipes from across the state are combined with the authors' own specialties to showcase the state's history, ethnic diversity and agriculture.

Jayni has appeared on numerous television and radio shows. Preceding Jayni's Kitchen, she made occasional appearances to prepare her favorite recipes on WOW! 6's River City Weekly with host Greg Hurd. In 1997 she appeared on All In Good Taste, a cooking show on the Home & Garden Network based in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1995 she traveled to New York City to cook on Robin Leach's Cookbook Central, a program on the Television Food Network. From 1992 through 1994, Jayni occasionally prepared recipes on Something Beautiful, a nationally broadcast cable television show produced in Kansas City, Missouri.

Jayni was a guest on Michel Feldman's National Public Radio Show, "Whad' Ya Know?" in July, 2002. She has also been a guest on Kansas Public Radio in Lawrence, Kansas and KCUR's Walt Bodine Show in Kansas City, Missouri.

In May 1993, Jayni represented Kansas as a finalist in The National Chicken Cooking Contest in Richmond, Virginia. She was the grand prize winner of Uncle Ben's Long Grain and Wild Rice 25th Anniversary Recipe Contest in 1986.

Jayni continues to create new recipes for Jayni's Kitchen while she pursues her interests in food, wine, gardening and travel.

    Kevin Dobson Kevin Dobson, Producer

Born and raised in Wichita, KS (but don't hold that against me). Went on to graduate from K.U. with a degree in theater and film. From there I began work with the fine folks at the Kansas City Film Office where I was quickly passed on to Maplewood Productions and Universal Pictures to assist in the making of Ang Lee's "Ride with the Devil." I then returned to Lawrence and became a part owner of isoar Productions where we produced a comedy cooking show and many other projects including commercials, special events and short independent dog dramas.

More recently, I have found a home here at Free State Studios where I am lucky enough to produce Jayni's Kitchen and Home and Away.

My only regret so far is that I have yet to lift my own body weight, but I'm confident that through a steady regimen of procrastination it may one day be possible.
