TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas lawmakers are still considering a proposal to restrict health insurance coverage of abortions. House and Senate negotiators met briefly Tuesday as they tried to reconcile differences between the two chambers over various insurance bills. The proposal would bar insurance companies from automatically covering abortions except those necessary to save a mother's life. Insurers would have to offer separate, abortion-only policies. A House committee endorsed a bill containing the proposal, but the measure died when the full House failed to debate it before a key deadline. The Senate has not debated it. Still, senators are willing to consider adding the proposal to other insurance legislation — in exchange for concessions from the House on other matters.
