Watch out for solicitors

By Theresa Freed on May 8, 2012

It's not unusual to see people selling various things on the streets of Lawrence. But if you want to do it legally, you have to be legitimate and have a permit from the City.

Monday night, three people were arrested because they allegedly weren't following the law. The suspects are Samual Albertson, Whitney Holloway and Corey Ward. Sgt. Trent McKinley with the Lawrence Police Department says it's unclear if the magazine subscription sales were real. What he does know, the three didn't have permits to sell their goods and one of them was reportedly not being professional with customers.

Although it might not be considered a serious crime, the Douglas County District Attorney's office is on the look out for people violating the City's solicitation laws.

Assistant District Attorney Patrick Hurley investigates consumer protection matters. He says the warmer weather brings out more solicitors. He encourages residents to use caution when making purchases.
