Sheriff’s Office forced to re-establish deer pick-up list

It’s that time of year when deer are starting to become more active.

Rutting season, or mating season, has begun. This is also the time when more deer can be found on the roads and highways of Douglas County.

“Around sun up to sun down; half an hour before each and after each, the deer are quite active,” Sergeant Steve Lewis with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s office has traditionally had a list that residents can sign up to get the deer meat when one is involved in a vehicle accident.

Last summer when the County began using the 911 system , that list was lost and now the Sheriff’s Office must start over. That means anyone on the previous list must sign up again.

To fill out an application to be considered for the list, you can sign up online or you can stop by the Sheriff’s Office.
