The lofts being built there will create a unique atmosphere in downtown Lawrence. It will also provide a much needed boost to the city's economy.

"It's new tax revenues, it's new avenues for the city from an energy standpoint," says Doug Compton, Owner of First Management. "It's new excitement." Compton took us on a tour of the building which will bring some unique elements to downtown, including a more pedestrian friendly sidewalk area.

The building will also house the city's only downtown gym, which will literally be open to the public. The Summit Fitness Center is one of two conceptually different fitness centers working hand in hand on the building's ground floor.

As of Tuesday, 70 percent of the residences have been leased, and Compton says the success of the building could bring more like it in the future.

First Management hopes to have the project completed by mid-October, with the gym opening sometime in November.
