Friday was move-in day at the dormitories at KU. More than 3,000 students moved into eight residence and 12 scholarship halls. They started as early as 8 a.m. and began moving boxes of clothes, furniture, appliances and lots of electronics.
Preston Sycks drove seven hours from Rochester, Minn. with his family. He brought his television and his game cube. He is living away from home for the first time.
“I am going into pharmacy,” said Sycks. “They have a really good program here. I like the atmosphere, especially the Phog.”
Lauren Capps is from Wichita. Most of her family including her mother went to KU. Lauren lives in the same residence hall as her mother Lisa, who said Ellsworth Hall has changed quite a bit since she went to school.
“The rooms are suites,” said Lisa Capps. “We always had two person rooms. They were like big cubicles.”
Her daughter Lauren is living in a suite. Ellsworth renovated the dorm rooms in 2003. Classes begin Monday.
