KU students and faculty teaming up with Ford

The KU Center for Design Research is collaborating with a big business name.

Ford Motor Company will work with a team of students and faculty this January.  The collaboration focuses on new internal controls and interior layouts for the Ford vehicles.

Center for Design Research Director, Greg Thomas, first reached out to the company in an email three years ago.  In June, he presented his students' concept to the company, and they like what they saw.

"There was a lot of dancing around and finally we started dancing to the right music in concert.  We've had a long relationship with them already in terms of understanding what there needs were, which is very important when you start working with a corporation."

Thomas says the project will include engineering students and provide real world experience.
