LAWRENCE - An Illinois couple are behind bars after two children were located bound and blindfolded covered outside the Walmart on Sixth Street, in West Lawrence, police said.
Adolfo Gomez was booked in jail on two accounts of child abuse and five accounts of child endagerment. He could also be facing a felony charge for resisting arrest. Officers said their investigation began after a customer called police about a man behaving suspiciously oustide of the store, 550 Congressional Drive, which is located west of Lawrence Free State High School.
Multiple officers were investigating a Chevy Silverado Wednesday morning, which was occupied by five children during the investigation. Police say the child who witnesses said was bound was sitting next to the car. The other four children were removed from the car. Police say their ages range from 5-years of age to 15 years old.
Police were conducting formal interviews with the children Wednesday afternoon. The children were later placed into protective custody.
