Family of victim settles in deadly drunk driving case

By Cory Smith on December 5, 2011

LAWRENCE - In the early morning hours of October 14, 2010, 19 year-old Mary Grace Paez was driving to a friend's house when she was killed by a drunk driver.

Sean Walker now sits in prison, albeit for an unrelated crime, but that didn't stop the Paez family from seeking justice. On Monday, they reached a $100,000 settlement with Walker's insurance policy.

With the civil case settled, all eyes now turn to the Douglas County District Attorney's office which expects to bring criminal charges against Walker in the near future.

The settlement will be paid by the company that insured Scott Walker. $100,000 is the maximum amount allowed under his policy.
