Child sex offender back behind bars

By Alli Pruett on July 26, 2012

Lawrence- 54-year old Christopher Saemisch was arrested at 11:40 Thursday morning at 812 ½ Connecticut St. The residence is listed as his primary address on the Kansas Sex Offender Registry. Back in 1999, Saemisch was sentenced to 15 years in prison for molesting a five-year-old child and heading up a child porn ring.

Despite these crimes and much to the dismay of the Douglas County District Attorney’s office, he was granted parole earlier this year. A Douglas County judge allowed him to be released, despite requests by prosecutors to keep him behind bars. Under the Kansas Violent Predators Act, the state can commit certain convicts beyond their sentence if they pose a serious threat to the public. Douglas County District Attorney, Charles Branson felt Saemisch fell into that category, calling him a sexually violent predator.

But despite requests, a judge allowed him to be released, saying there was insufficient evidence to prove Saemisch would reoffend, but on Thursday, he was back in custody. Prosecutors did not release the details of his alleged parole violation, but did confirm that he was detained in Lawrence.
