Papa Keno's in tax trouble

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Papa Keno's Pizzeria in downtown Lawrence was closed Wednesday, with a sign posted on its door saying that the business's assets had been seized for nonpayment of taxes.

Personnel from the Kansas Department of Revenue were inside the business at 1035 Mass., as locks were changed on the front door and other personnel were standing by.

During a brief interview from his upstairs office after the signs were posted, but before the locks were changed, owner Greg Keenan insisted that all was well with his signature pizzeria downstairs.

"We're dealing with it," Keenan said. "We just got it all settled."

Keenan declined to discuss the situation further, saying he had to talk with his attorney.

"Everything will be fine," he said.
