Host Argentina defeated the United States, 77-64, on Friday night in the finals of the FIBA Americas Under 18 championships.
Kansas University freshman guard Travis Releford scored 12 points off 5-of-8 shooting — he made two of four free throws — while starting and playing 31 minutes.
Releford, who attended Bishop Miege High in Roeland Park, also had two rebounds and a steal. Kemba Walker led the U.S. with 21 points.
The U.S., Argentina, Canada and Puerto Rico have qualified for the FIBA U19 World Championship, July 2-12, 2009, in New Zealand.
