Traffic accident knocks out power to local residents

Electricity restored to nearly all customers

More than 1,200 customers in central Lawrence were without power after a car struck a pole about 12:30a.m. today along Ninth Street just north of Memorial Stadium.

According to Westar Energy's Web site, the company has restored most service to Lawrence customers. Only two customers were listed without power at 10 a.m.

According to Westar's Web site, the outage of 1,223 customers affected homes just north of the Kansas University campus but not north of Sixth Street.
