Area law enforcement officers spent more than an hour searching for a child this morning before finding him in an area northeast of Lawrence.

The 4-year-old boy appeared to be fine, Douglas County Sheriff’s Lt. Kari Wempe said at 12:15 p.m.

The boy was reported missing shortly before 11 a.m. from the 1850 block of East 1700 Road, Wempe said. A total of 25 officers from Douglas and Leavenworth counties, Lawrence Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol were called in for the search. A Highway Patrol helicopter also was used.
