Excellence in Commerce awards given

Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, BG Consultants, Hallmark Cards Inc. and 23rd Street Brewery are winners of this year’s local Excellence in Commerce awards, sponsored by the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce.

The four winners — along with Lawrence Therapy Services, recipient of the annual Bob Billings Rising Star Award — were honored during a ceremony Thursday at the Kansas Union.

Bert Nash won in the Non-profit category. Other finalists were Ballard Community Center and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.

BG Consultants won in the Service category. Other finalists were James F. Otten, D.D.S. and CEK Insurance.

Hallmark won in the Manufacturing/Distribution category. Other finalists: Kinedyne and Pur-O-Zone.

23rd Street Brewery won in the Retail category. Other finalists were Golf USA and Zarco 66.

This is the fifth year that the Lawrence chamber has participated in the awards program, which accepts nominations and then judges employers in areas ranging from business stability and growth to community involvement.
