Bob Page, chief operating officer at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., today was named successor to hospital President and CEO Irene Cumming.
The KU Hospital Board approve the move 15-3.
Cumming resigned last week after 11 years with the hospital to become president and CEO of the University HealthSystem Consortium, a group of 97 academic medical centers and their affiliated hospitals. She leaves KU Hospital in June.
Cumming has clashed in recent months with Barbara Atkinson, dean of the KU School of Medicine, about the relationship between the hospital and the medical school. Cumming has been critical of Atkinson’s plan to start a new affiliation with St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., which Cumming says has the potential to harm KU Hospital.
