Fire in East Lawrence home injures an occupant

Friday, March 2, 2007

One person suffered minor injuries this morning after fire brout out in an East Lawrence home.

Lawrence Douglas County Fire-Medical crews responded to a duplex at 1027 New Jersey at 7:06 a.m.

Division Chief Doug Green said the first crews on the scene saw light smoke coming from the home — and extinguished a fire in an office area.

Crews treated the injured person — an adult female — at the scene.

Green estimates damage to the structure at $30,000 — with another $10,000 in damage to the contents.

He says the office area of the home suffered fire and water damage — and there was smoke damage throughout the unit.

The other unit in the duplex suffered only minor smoke damage.

The cause remains under investigation.

The Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the two residents with food and clothing.
