The average SAT scores at Lawrence’s two public high remained above most state and national averages last year, according to The College Board results released this morning.
Only 150 students — 79 at Lawrence High and 71 at Free State — took the test in 2006-2007 compared to the 169 the year before and the 553 students at both schools who took the ACT test, which is more common in the Midwest.
Here’s a rundown comparing the average LHS and Free State scores from 2006-2007 to 2005-2006:
• Reading — LHS up to 600 from 584, and Free State up to 602 from 599.
• Math — LHS down to 568 from 584, and Free State up to 599 from 572.
• Writing — LHS up to 576 from 570, and Free State stayed at 576.
National averages dipped slightly in all categories to 502 in reading, 515 in math and 494 in writing.
At the state level scores improved, most dramatically in math, up from 518 to 590, and in reading, up from 497 to 569.
The Lawrence High average in math for 2006-2007 was the only score in the Lawrence district below the state average.
