KU receives 'non-specific' bomb threat

No evacuation planned

Friday, April 27, 2007

Kansas University received a "non-specific" bomb threat Friday, but planned no evacuation of campus buildings.

Ralph Oliver, KU's director of public safety, released the following public statement Friday afternoon:

"This is to notify you that the university today received a non-specific bomb threat. The threat is generic and non-specific and does not warrant any evacuation of buildings or campus. However, I am informing campus and asking you to report any suspicious packages or activities on or around campus to the Office of Public Safety at 864-5900 or dial 911.

"A university employee opened an email containing the threat at 1:57 p.m. today. The email had been sent to the employee at 6:10 a.m. today and alleged four pipe bombs were placed somewhere on or around campus. The employee immediately notified Public Safety. Authorities are now investigating the incident. No more information on the source of the email is available at this time.

"We are notifying the entire campus due to the current heightened sensitivity regarding campus safety. The university receives these kinds of generic threats on occasion during the year. "
