Temperatures warming up for weekend

Dry conditions continue

Friday, September 29, 2006

You'll probably need a jacket this morning. But warm and dry weather is moving in to the Lawrence area for the next few days, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meterologist.

"It looks like we'll top out today in the 70s, and then we have a lot of 80s to talk about," Schack said. ". . . It looks like more of a late summer forecast than a fall one."

Temperatures dipped to a low of 41 degrees overnight, but began to climb during the early morning hours, Schack said.

By 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport's temperature was 49 degrees, the humidity was 66 percent and winds were out of the south at 8 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 55 degrees. The record low was 39 degrees, set in 1916.

Today's high will top out at 76 degrees, just shy of the average high temperature for this date off 77 degrees. The record high was 96 degrees, set in 1953.

Overnight, temperatures will fall to 50 degrees by early Saturday morning. But they'll rebound to a high of 82 degrees by Saturday afternoon, Schack said.

"If you have afternoon plans tomorrow, it looks nice. It just won't feel like fall," she said.

Saturday night, temperatures will drop to a low of 54 degrees by early Sunday morning, Schack said.

Sunday will be even warmer, with the high rising to 87 degrees under mostly sunny skies, she said.

High temperatures will run into the 80s through Wednesday, she said.
