Cooler, with chance for rain

Temperatures to fall to 30s Friday

Lawrence residents will feel cooler temperatures today and they'll have a chance of getting wet tonight, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

"During the evening, there's a chance for a passing shower," Schack said.

Today's high will climb to 73 degrees, with northwest winds 8 to 15 mph. The average high temperature for this date is 78 degrees. The record high was 93 degrees, set in 1990.

"We have a lot of sunshine this morning with some clouds pushing in," Schack said.

At 7:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport's temperature was 53 degrees, the humidity was 83 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 5 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 55 degrees. The record low was 31 degrees, set in 1942.

Clouds will increase today, as a cold front pushes through, holding temperatures down about 19 degrees below average on Thursday and Friday, Schack said.

Overnight there's a slight chance for rain, with the temperature falling to 44 degrees by early Thursday morning, Schack said.

Thursday's high will reach only be 59 degrees, she said.

Friday's morning low will be 37 degrees, the first day of the season to fall into the 30s, Schack said. Friday's afternoon high will be 72, she said. .
