Transformer blew early this morning

Wescoe Hall on Kansas University campus is closed to students and faculty today, officials said early Friday morning.
“There was a transformer that blew this morning at 2:33. Basically, Wescoe’s going to be shut down for the day,” said Don Steeples, KU’s vice provost for scholarly support. “There’s a chance we could get it going late in the day, but for all intents and purposes it’s closed for the day.”
Wescoe Hall is undergoing $3.5 million in renovations to enclose its southside terrace and convert the area into two floors of office space, adding about 24,000 square feet of interior space.
Construction work recently shifted to overnight after Chancellor Robert Hemenway, who teaches a class there, complained about construction noise interrupting classes.
