The Kansas softball team opened play this afternoon in the NCAA Regionals for the fourth time in the Tracy Bunge era. But not since Bunge's first season in Lawrence, back in 1997, have the Jayhawks won a tourney opener.

Free State High is prepareing to say goodbye to the best swimmer in school history. This weekend, senior Ashley Robinson will swim the 500 free and 100 fly at the state meet in Topeka. A win in either event would be Robinson's fifth individual state title.

Area children are riding with more confidence and safety this week thanks to the 10th annual bike helmet fair, organized by Douglas County Fire and Medical. The hundreds of children who attended this year's fair not only received free bike helmets, but were given an initial fitting and encouraged to participate in a bike safety check and bike safety course.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment required the tanks at the Presto Station at 9th and Louisiana be pulled and disposed of.
