"What in the world am I looking at?" you may ask yourself while viewing the Olive Gallery's next show. "Manipulation and Relation" features a series of inkjet images by Kansas University graduate Christopher James Miller. He created them through a close-up photographic study of his own body with a substance or object imposed upon it. The abstract images will be unveiled during an opening reception from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the gallery. They'll remain on view through July.
The International Institute of Young Musicians returns to Lawrence Sunday, with nearly 100 students from across the United States, Australia and Asia. Ranging in age from 11 to 19, the youngsters participate in music study and competition during the program, which runs through July 28. Several events, including the International Piano Competition, are free and open to the public. Sixteen candidates - two from Kansas City - will compete in semifinals from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Finals will be 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Lied Center, 1600 Stewart Drive.
