Lawrence gets morning rain

A thunderstorm rolled across Lawrence this morning, bringing some lightning and periods of heavy rains.

By 8:30 a.m., 0.17 of an inch of rain had fallen at the 6News and Free State Studio in downtown Lawrence. The temperature was 62 degrees and winds were light from the southeast.

The National Weather Service says today's storms could produce locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds near 50 mph.

Hail, generally less than an inch in diameter, is also possible with the storms, according to the weather service.

A slight chance for thunderstorms will continue this afternoon and overnight across the area, the weather service said.

Today's temperatures are expected to climb into the 80s, with the high reaching 86 degrees, according to the 6News weather forecast.
