Storms could bring more large hail, damaging winds

Lawrence could get another round of severe weather today — including more hail.
A line of showers and thunderstorms pushed through Lawrence just after 9 a.m. today, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. The National Weather Service reported about a third of an inch of rain fell through noon today.
"We have a chance for some strong weather as we head into the afternoon and evening," Schack said.
The National Weather Service says some of the storms could be severe, producing large hail and damaging winds, with the best chance for severe weather along and south of Interstate 70.
"Any storms will come to an end about midnight," Schack said.
On Sunday night, a thunderstorm that started in Jefferson County — and led to a tornado warning there — moved south through Douglas County and dropped hail on parts of Lawrence, she said. Some reports were that some hail reached 2.5 inches in diameter, which is about the size of a tennis ball, she said.
"We had an inch of rain last evening as that thunderstorm rolled through Lawrence," Schack said.
At 1:30 p.m., Lawrence's skies were overcast, the temperature was 65 degrees, the humidity was 78 percent and winds were from the northwest at 6 mph.
Schack said today's high temperature will climb to 77 degrees. Winds will be from the east at 5 to 15 mph, she said.
Thunderstorms will change over to rain showers by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning low will be overnight 45 degrees.
Tuesday will be much cooler, with the high temperature reaching only 54 degrees, she said.
Wednesday's low will be 35 climbing to a high of 65 degrees with mostly cloudy skies, she said.
