A gruesome discovery Sunday for fire crews responding to a vehicle fire on the south side of Clinton Lake. A charred body was found inside a burned four-door vehicle, leading Douglas County sheriff's department officials to launch an investigation that continued into Sunday night.

Seven people remain homeless Sunday night after an early morning fire destroys their apartment in Old West Lawrence. The fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m., three residents in the house at the time escaped without injury.

A 51-year-old man is killed in a road accident south of Clinton Lake Friday night. Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash on County Road 458 and East 700 Road, just after 4 p.m. The accident involved a motorized bike and a mini-van. A longtime Lawrence educator receives the state's top teaching award. In a ceremony Monday morning, officials announced Ray Wilburn will be inducted into the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame. Wilbur taught math at Lawrence High School for 30 years before retiring in 1995.

Lawrence Police apprehend a man wanted in connection with a lengthy drug investigation. Police surrounded Lawrence Memorial Hospital around 6:15 p.m. Monday on a tip that Terry McIntyre Jr. was there visiting his girlfriend and newborn baby. After waiting for about 45 minutes, police brought him into custody without incident after he left the hospital.

Police are looking into an unusual burglary at a local park. Someone broke into a concession stand at Holcom Park and made off with about $450 dollars in candy and snacks. Police said it appeared someone pried open the metal door covering the front window of the stand.

A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition Sunday night after an accident Saturday morning in north Lawrence. Police say 15-year-old William Baker was walking on the sidewalk near 2nd and Locust when a large trailer attached to a Toyota SUV hopped the curb and struck him after running over a bump in the intersection. A Lifestar helicopter rushed the boy to Children's Mercy Hospital.
