One brutal act begets another in "A History of Violence," Director David Cronenberg potent new drama. Viggo Mortensen stars as a model citizen of tiny Millbrook, Indiana, whose heroic encounter with two thrill-killers leads the man and his family down a hostile, disturbing path.

If "A History of Violence" is a loaded title. How about "The Greatest Game Ever Played." And it's about golf? Mark Frost's book on the 1913 U.S. Open provides the setting for this feel-good sports drama.

Those who never got to enjoy Joss Whedon's short-lived TV show "Firefly" can now see the feature-length version of it. "Serenity" follows the crew of a mercenary spaceship 500 years in the future.

Generic leading man Paul Walker and generic screen hottie Jessica Alba headline "Into the Blue," in which a wannabe treasure hunter in the Bahamas happens upon a submerged cargo plane full of cocaine.

And finally at the art house, Werner Herzog's acclaimed documentary "Grizzly Man" follows the life of recluse Timothy Treadwell, who lived among bears in the Alaskan wild for a dozen years before he and his girlfriend were mauled to death by one.
