Families are picking up the pieces and trying to move on after Hurricane Katrina, but some are still living in shelters depending on the government and the Red Cross for help.
Just last week Lawrence Red Cross volunteer Judi Mahaley returned home after working in a Louisiana shelter.
Mahaley returned on Sunday from a three-week deployment in an Alexandria, La., shelter.
While there working around the clock, Mahaley reunited families, got residents their mail and just gave them a shoulder to lean on.
