A band of showers was slowly creeping across central Kansas this morning, bringing a slight chance for some showers later today in the Lawrence area.
"It might be a good idea to have the umbrella handy," said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. "We have a very spotty chance for showers this afternoon, but I think it's staying well to the west of us."
At 7:30 a.m., Lawrence's temperature was 49 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were calm.
"We do have some sunshine in the forecast to start the day, but not much in the way of sunshine in the afternoon," Schack said. Today's high will top out at 67 degrees, she said.
"Our better chance to pick up some showers is starting tonight into Wednesday," Schack said. The National Weather Service says the chance for rain is 30 percent today and there's a 50 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms tonight.
Overnight, the temperature in Lawrence will fall to 51 degrees by early Wednesday morning, she said. More scattered showers are expected during the first half of the day on Wednesday, she said.
The National Weather Service says the chance for rain is 40 percent Wednesday and 20 percent Wednesday night.
Wednesday's high will top out at 68 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies, Schack said.
Thursday's morning low will be 48 degrees, with Thursday's afternoon high climbing to a high of 69 degrees, she said.
