Lawrence area still in tornado watch

A thunderstorm roared through Lawrence shortly before 4 p.m. today, bringing high winds, rain and some hail.
However, Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist, said most of the severe weather had pushed through the area as of 5:45 p.m.
"It's just your average thunderstorms pushing through," Schack said.
A thunderstorm that moved quickly from the southwest through northeast paft of Lawrence from about 3:40 p.m. to 4 p.m. brought strong gusts of winds with it, including a 60 mph gust was recorded about 3:50 p.m. in downtown Lawrence, Schack said. The storm was preceded by an eerie greenish sky to the west of the city.
Pea-sized hail fell briefly in southern Lawrence about 3:45 p.m. as the storm rolled through. More pea-sized hail fell in south Lawrence shortly before 6 p.m. as another storm system rolled through, also bringing lightning and thunder.
The National Weather Service has placed the Lawrence area in a tornado watch through 8 tonight.
The watch includes 17 counties in Kansas, including Douglas, Jefferson and Franklin counties. A tornado watch is in effect for Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties through midnight.
Tonight will be colder and breezy, with mostly cloudy skies. A chance of thunderstorms is expected to continue into this evening.
Much colder temperatures are expected tonight, with a chance of light snow by morning. Monday's high will reach only 39 degrees, with winds gusting up to 35 mph.
