I've always felt kind of sorry for the animals in Central Park Zoo. They are stuck in the middle of America's most overcrowded city, surrounded by skyscrapers and Yankees fans. But that's not quite the attitude of the animated creatures in "Madagascar." From the perspective of these pampered zoo residents, they're living the good life. So when four of them accidentally get thrown back into the wild, they are forced to deal with the realities of taking a walk on the wild side.
Also opening this week in area theaters is "The Longest Yard," a remake of the 1974 prison football comedy. Adam Sandler takes over for Burt Reynolds as disgraced quarterback Paul Crewe. But the veteran Reynolds shows up in a supporting role.
Finally at the art house is "Look at Me," a best screenplay winner at last year's Cannes Film Festival. This French-language comedy-drama calls to mind the films of Woody Allen in a character study of how fame disrupts the lives of a Parisian author and his family.
