Victim of head-on fatality accident identified

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were assisted by Douglas County Sheriff's department officers this morning at the site of a two-vehicle, head-on fatality accident, about a mile south of Lecompton on Douglas County Route 1029.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were assisted by Douglas County Sheriff's department officers this morning at the site of a two-vehicle, head-on fatality accident, about a mile south of Lecompton on Douglas County Route 1029.

The woman killed in a wreck this morning south of Lecompton has been identified as Betty J. Irvin, 51, Lecompton.

Irvin was driving south in a 2001 Chevrolet about 7:15 a.m. on County Road 1029 when she collided with a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck that had crossed the center line.

The driver of the pickup, Michael A. Sluka, 22, Ottawa, was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The cause of the wreck remained under investigation this afternoon by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
