Lawrence treated with temperatures in 70s

Monday, March 28, 2005

Sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s were treating Lawrence residents to a much-needed spring day.

"It doesn't get much better -- a great day to start out the work week," says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. After several days of cloudy, cold weather, the temperature began climbing this morning and was expected to top out at 74 today.

At 4 p.m, skies were mostly clear and the temperature was 73 degrees, with a south 20-mph wind. The average temperature for this date is 62. The record high is 84, set in 1986.

"It looks like our temperatures increase for Tuesday, with a slight cool-down in the middle of the week," Schack said.

Tuesday's morning low will be 46, climbing by late Tuesday afternoon to a high of 78 degrees.

"Holy cow! It's the warmest temperature we've seen this year," Schack said.

Winds will pick up out of the south 12-20 mph and clouds will move in, bringing in a chance for some isolated storms on Tuesday evening, Schack said. The National Weather Service says there's a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight.

Wednesday's morning low will be 46, with the high climbing to 65, Schack said. There's also a chance of rain late Wednesday night into early Thursday, she said.
