More severe weather -- including lightning, hail and heavy rains -- is headed toward the Lawrence area today, says 6News meteorologist Matt Sayers.

"We're going to oontinue to see scattered thunderstorms throughout the afternoon," Sayers said. "There's a slight chance that some of these could be severe. But for the most part, unless they just pass by, heavy rainfall and lightning will be the problem."

Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson and Shawneecounties have been placed under a severe thunderstorm watch through 9 p.m.

Tonight's skies will be partly cloudy, with the temperature dropping to 65 degrees by early Friday morning.

Friday's high will be 86 degrees, with mostly sunny skies.

Saturday's morning temperature will be 67, with the high hitting 90.
