Firefighters investigating overnight downtown blaze

Tuesday, January 25, 2005

Lawrence firefighters were this morning investigating a blaze that broke out overnight at a downtown oriental rug shop just west of Ninth and Massachusetts streets.

Firefighters were called about 3:46 a.m. to the report of a fire at Kimbari, an oriental rug and antique business at 15 W. Ninth St., according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Captain Nathan Stover.

The two-alarm fire brought nine units to the scene, Stover said. The fire was under control by about 4 a.m., he said.

The store was smoke damaged in the rear where the fire started. Buildings to either side received minor smoke damage.
