Sunny skies and and temperatures headed into the 60s are expected for the Lawrence area today.
"Please get outside and enjoy it because it's going to be a beautiful end to the week," said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.
But it was starting out cold. At 1:45 p.m., the temperature was 60, with a northwest 5-12 mph wind.
Reith said temperatures will rise dramatically during the day to 61 by late afternoon. Tonight's skies will continue to be clear. The temperature will fall overnight to a low of 28 by early Saturday morning.
Saturday's high will reach 56, with south to southeast winds 8 to 12 mph. Clouds will be rolling in Saturday afternoon as a cold front begins to move in from the northwest, bringing a chance for precipitation and a drop in temperatures.
The National Weather Service says the chance for rain on Saturday night is 20 percent, with a 50 percent chance of rain on Sunday.
Sunday's morning low will; be 38. The temperature will climb to a high of 48 by Sunday afternoon with a chance for precipitation, Reith said.
"If it lasts long enough, it should start out as rain, but it may turn into snow," he said.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 30 percent chance of rain and snow Sunday night, changing over to a chance of snow after midnight Sunday.
