A winter storm moving north and east across Kansas today will bring chilly temperatures and possibly some light snow flurries or sprinkles to the Lawrence area today.
"The edge of the snow is creeping in our direction," said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. However, "most of the precipitation will be light, if we see any of it at all."
At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 38, with a northeast 5-mph wind making the wind chill 34. Temperatures will drop off today, with the late afternoon temperature falling to 37.
Most of the rain and snow will be to the south and west of Lawrence, Schack said. Precipitation was moving up toward Emporia this morning with some snow out by Salina, Schack said. Much of the southern and western Kansas counties were in a winter weather advisory today until 6 p.m., Schack said. They were expecting a wintry mix of rain and snow, with some accumulations later in the day.
Overnight, Lawrence's low temperature will fall to 25 by early Thursday morning, with Thursday's high reaching 44 under partly cloudy skies.
"It looks like in the next three days we go from flurries to 50s," Schack said.
Friday's morning low will be 27, with a high reaching 50, under partly cloudy skies.
Saturday's morning temperature will start at 31, with the high reaching 52 under mostly sunny skies, Schack said.
