Lightning strikes up bell concert at west Lawrence church

Friday, August 26, 2005

You might have heard the saying, "for whom the bell tolls, time marches on."

Well, that time must've felt like an eternity early this morning for west Lawrence residents awakened after a lightning strike at Corpus Christi Catholic Church triggered a surprise bell concert.

The Rev. Mick Mulvany, pastor, says he arrived at the church around 4 a.m. after a police request to shut off the church bells.

Mulvany estimates they tolled for about an hour -- and adds the lightning caused no damage to the church.
