A former state senator, a Topeka attorney and the mayor of Garden City are Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ selections for the Kansas Board of Regents.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius announced today she has appointed Christine Downey-Schmidt of Inman, Dan Lykins of Topeka and Janie Perkins of Garden City to serve four-year terms on the board, which oversees the six state universities, Washburn University, 19 community colleges and 11 technical schools and colleges.
Downey-Schmidt, whose tenure in the state senate ended last year, is a former teacher in Newton.
Lykins practices law at Bryan, Lykins, Hejtmanek and Fincher.
Perkins is mayor of Garden City and supplemental programs coordinator for the public schools there.
The three will replace Deryl Wynn of Kansas City, Lew Ferguson of Topeka and Bill Docking of Arkansas, who each chose not to be appointed to another term.
The appointments, which are effective immediately, are subject to later confirmation by the Kansas Senate.
