Defendant captured after fleeing from court

Friday, April 29, 2005

A man being taken into custody this morning at Douglas County District Court, bolted from officers and ran outside the building, only to be captured less than a block away.

The incident happened just before 11 a.m. today, after Judge Paula Martin ordered court security officers to take Joshua L. Supernaw to jail.

Sheriff's department spokeswoman, Lt. Kathy Tate, said Supernaw was appearing in court for a bond hearing. Tate said Supernaw ran out the front door of the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center as officers were trying to escort him from the courtroom.

Officers captured him in a parking lot just north of Scotch Fabrics along New Hampshire Street. He was hiding behind a van. Officers took him back into custody and transported him to the Douglas County Jail.
