Free State SAT scores higher than those at LHS

Tuesday, August 31, 2004

A disparity in SAT scores continues between students at Lawrence High School and Free State High School, according to scores released today.

The gap between the city's two public high schools is narrowing -- but LHS students are still lagging behind -- scoring 38 points lower than their counterparts at Free State

The average composite score for LHS students was 1,167, compared to 1,205 for Free State students. The highest possible score is 1,600 on the Scholastic Aptitude test, a college entrance exam administered by the College Board.

However, as a whole, Lawrence students continue to score above the state and national averages.

Last year, 219 Lawrence students took the SATs last year. That's the highest number in the past four years.

Last year, 509 students took the ACT test.
