If you have outside activities today, don't let this morning's brief showers make you change your plans.
"We are starting out with clouds, but don't let that fool you," Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist, said this morning. "There is plenty of blue sky to the west of us. So we will break out into sunshine this afternoon."
Lawrence picked up 0.01 of an inch of rain this morning, Schack said. There were some showers moving into southwest Douglas County about 8:30 a.m. But most of the showers are expected to stay off to the south and east of Lawrence, she said.
The National Weather Service says there's a 20 percent chance of precipitation up to 11 a.m. for the Lawrence area. But after that, there's no rain in the forecast through the end of the week.
After periods of cool temperatures, followed by hot and unusually wet conditions, Lawrence will finally get an average August week of weather. Temperatures will stay in the average range for this time of year, with the highs expected to be 85 to 87 through the work week, with overnight lows in the 60s.
The temperature was in the 60s this morning and was expected to climb to a high of 85 today, with south winds 3 to 5 mph.
The overnight low will drop to 60 by Tuesday morning. Temperatures will reach 86 on Tuesday afternoon.
"Tuesday, we'll have plenty of sunshine," Schack said.
