Douglas County commissioners plan to spend nearly a quarter of a million dollars on a truck they hope they never have to use.
Commissioners tentatively agreed this morning to buy a new mobile command center. The vehicle will have meeting space, communications equipment and other features -- all designed to help officials stay connected during tornadoes, chemical scares and other times of trouble.
The vehicle will replace a 1983 model bus and be financed using federal grants for homeland security.
Officials intend to put in the order next week for the van, which has a price tag of $240,000.
