Lawrence man sentenced to probation in elder abuse case

Friday, April 23, 2004

A judge ordered 3 years' probation today for a Lawrence man convicted of causing his elderly father's death by neglect.

Judge Michael Malone declined to order any "shock time" in jail for Timothy D. Harrell, 45, who was convicted last month of involuntary manslaughter in the November 2002 death at Lawrence Memorial Hospital of his father, Henry F. Harrell.

Harrell was convicted after entering an Alford guilty plea, which means he maintained his innocence but acknowledged the state might have enough evidence to convict him at trial.
